Fairway calls attention to infant homicide act
Fairway's Piedmont Triad branch on Greensboro, NC, helped
concerned citizens in nearby High Point call attention to
a state law that could save the lives of newborn babies
who might otherwise be abandoned.
Fairway created the images for four billboards in the High
Point area funded through grants received from The High
Point Community Foundation and High Point Regional Health
System.
The billboard call attention to the Infant Homicide
Prevention Act, or ''Safe Surrender'' law, passed by the
North Carolina General Assembly in 2001, which allows a
parent to turn an unharmed newborn up to seven days old
over to an authority figure anonymously and without facing
criminal charges.
Several recent cases involving teenagers whose abandoned
babies were found dead led to the public awareness
campaign about the law.
